Max King
Max is a 1998 graduate, was a four year letter winner in cross country and track during his days at Crater High School. Although he never had the opportunity to run at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene his love of running never wavered. After graduating from Crater High, he enrolled at Cornell University where he graduated in 2002 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Cornell cross country team and a member of the men’s track team. He competed in the NCAA championships on both the cross country team and the track team and achieved All-American status. He did get his first opportunity to run at Hayward Field during the NCAA Championships when he ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase while running at Cornell.
Max has run in the Olympic trials in both the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the marathon and is one of the top cross country runners in the world. He has run in Jordan, Hungary, Belgium, France, Japan and Scotland, has competed in the World Cross Country Championships and has placed 18th in the prestigious New York City Marathon. Max has won the local Pear Blossom Run 7 times and currently holds the course record. He finished 4th in the prestigious Western States 100 mile Endurance Run in 2014.
Currently, Max lives with his wife, Dory and their 2 children in Bend, Oregon. After 8 years as a Chemical/Biological Engineer, he retired and now runs professionally and works as a footwear buyer for a specialty running store
