Class of 1976.  Marty earned 4 varsity letters in football and wrestling. In wrestling he placed 2nd in district in 1975 and placed 4th in the State Championships in 1975. He also finished 2nd in the National Greco Championships in 1975. He was District Champion in 1976 and finished 3rd in the 1976 State Championships. In 1976 he was State Champion in the Oregon Freestyle Championships; State Champion in the Oregon Greco Championships and was National Champion in Greco Roman.

He was also on the 1976 cultural exchange program.

Marty attended Oregon State University from 1977-81 where he was a four year letterman. He was PAC 8 Champion in 1977, PAC 10 Champion in 1978, and placed 3rd in PAC 10 in 1979. He was regional Olympic trial champion in 1980 and was PAC 10 Champion in 1981. Marty was named to the NCAA All American team two times in 1977 and 1981. He was also honored in 1981 as the PAC 10 Outstanding Wrestler of the Year.
