Jody McLeod

A 2001 Crater graduate, Jody McLeod was an active student-athlete who has gone on to make great contributions to society in her adult life.

Jody was a four-year Varsity starter for the Crater Girls Basketball team from 1997-2001, which won three Conference Titles.  She is one of only two Crater athletes to play in three state title games.  Crater’s record during her four years was 90-19.

While at Crater, Jody was a two-time All-Conference player, the SOC Player of the Year in 2001 and was also elected 2nd Team All-State.  She is currently the 4th All Time leading scorer at Crater with 896 points, 3rd All Time in rebounding with 641, and still owns single game records in defensive rebounds with 13 and free throw attempts with 18.

In 2001 Jody selected the University of Montana over Washington State and Idaho State for college and had a great career from 2001-2006, playing in three NCAA tournaments.  She finished in the 500/500 club in scoring and rebounding.  She was voted their Most Improved player in 2005, received their Coaches Award in 2006 and was named the Lifter of the Year in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

“Jody is the best rebounder I have ever coached, she had the athletic ability, size and desire to find the basketball,” said her high school coach David Heard. Heard goes on to say, “She was the anchor for our program for four years, playing for three state titles and helping put Crater High School on the map for girls’ basketball.  Her work on the court, in the classroom and around our community helped lay the foundation for girls in the Central Point community.” Jody tells us, “My experience at Crater was some of my best years and really opened a lot of doors for me. I feel very lucky to have had such an amazing coaching staff that not only pushed me on the basketball court but also as a person. My head coach, David Heard, was instrumental in helping me to become the person I am today. He taught me mental toughness, perseverance, hard work and determination. David Heard is the beast coach I have ever had.”

Jody now lives in Kalispell, Montana and has been a Probation and Parole Officer there for the past eight years.  She supervises individuals that have been convicted of a felony charge(s), and she ensures that they are abiding by the conditions imposed by the Court.

Last year Jody started the business Big Sky Brews Cruise. They partnered with all nine breweries in the Flathead Valley in Montana to provide brewery tours. Each tour visits three breweries and includes a behind-the-scenes look at a craft brewery facility with an overview of the brewing process.
