Class of 1957. Fred earned 7 varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball. Fred received All Conference recognition his senior year and was voted Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year.

He attended Linfield College where he played baseball all four years. He received various All Conference and All District awards in baseball, and in his senior year was named to the 1961 All American team.

In 1961 he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. Over the next four years he pitched professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants organizations. He pitched for the Portland Beavers; El Paso, Texas; Tulsa, Oklahoma and Winnipeg, Canada.
