A 1985 Crater graduate, Shereen Underwood was an active student-athlete who has gone on to lead an equally active personal and professional adult life.

While at Crater, Shereen participated in softball and gymnastics and was a mainstay of the school newspaper, serving as assistant editor. An excellent student, she was consistently on the honor roll and was a member of the National Honor Society. She received the Merit Award in Journalism from the University of Oregon, the Presidential Award for Academic Fitness and wrote articles for the Medford Mail Tribune.  Outside of school she was a member of Job’s Daughters and even found time for part- time work at the Central Point Pappy’s Pizza.

Shereen’s post high school education began in 1985 at Southern Oregon State College where she was to stay until 1988 before moving on to Santa Clara University. In 1990 she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Even as a full-time student, Shereen worked to help pay her college education. At Southern Oregon she served as the entertainment coordinator for the college and at Santa Clara she worked as a dormitory resident assistant. Upon graduation from Santa Clara she had a host of jobs including being a counselor in the Palomare’s Girls’ Group Home in San Jose and a brief stint working as an intake coordinator for On Track in Medford. From there she transitioned to the Children’s Services Division for Oregon as a social service specialist in Eugene. With her Psychology degree in hand and a wide range of work experiences, she decided in 1995 to go back to college and specifically to Wayne State University in Detroit to meet necessary pre-medical school requirements. Once these requirements were met, she was accepted into the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, receiving her Doctorate of Osteopathic medicine in 2001. After completing her internship, in 2002 she started her psychiatric residency, finishing it in 2007. Subsequently, she passed on the first attempt both parts of the exams for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

After eight years of public and private psychiatry practice in Michigan, in 2016 Shereen re-located to Oregon, starting first as a staff psychiatrist at Peacehealth Medical System in Eugene and since January in her own private practice, Oregon Psychiatric Partners, where she works primarily with an adult and geriatric population.

Shereen is married to Brian Paquette who she met on a coed softball team in California. Their son Parker is 13 and attends Creswell Middle School. As Shereen reflects on her Crater days, she does so with fondness: “I feel like I came from a great community that still feels like an extended family. I still hang out with people I’ve known since grade school and love that I still have strong ties with Central Point. There were many outstanding teachers whom I knew were looking out for my best interests.”
