A 1985 Crater graduate, Jordan Seng was a phenomenal scholar as well as an outstanding athlete.  He was Student Body President; newspaper editor; a member of the Honor Society; top 5% scholastically in his class and was Valedictorian of his class.  In addition, he was a three-sport athlete participating in football, basketball and track.  He was an All-Conference First Team as a defensive back in football.

Following graduation, Jordan enrolled at Stanford University where he earned a B.A degree in political theory.  He then attended the University of Chicago earning a M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Theory.  He moved on to Harvard University where he was a National Security Fellow at the Kennedy School of Government, earning a post-doctoral degree in 2000.

Some notable honors he received include the Stanford President’s Award for Academic Excellence, the Mellon Foundation Dissertation Fellowship, and two Harvard Post-doctoral Research Fellowships.

His employment includes; International Security Fellow, Kennedy School of Government Harvard University 1999 – 2000; Vice President of Business Development, Yhos Corporation 2000 – 2002; Director of Missions, First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu  2003 – 2008 and Senior Pastor, Bluewater Mission, Honolulu 2009 – present.

Jordan tells us, “The path of my life since leaving Crater in 1985 has had more than a few twists and turns.  I invested heavily in an academic career, eventually abandoning it during a time of searching that led to a foray in the entrepreneurial software business.  Bit by bit, I forged a life of ministry that now involves church-planting, international missions, writing, and teaching around the world.  Things haven’t gone precisely as I thought they would, but my Crater experience has proven an invaluable foundation for it all.  I’d say I learned to preach from listening to inspirational talks from Jay McRoberts in our Lettermen’s Club meetings.  I learned how to distill ideas and write concisely in my AP History Class with Mike McCandless.  I was encouraged to find my own way by teachers like Mike McClain (newspaper) and Pete Cislo (student government) who often let me try things outside the normal range.”

Jordan shares, “Everybody has a path, as unpredictable as it might be, and my season at Crater was a huge part of my journey.  I’m deeply grateful for all I received in School District 6.  Thanks to all who continue to make it the nourishing and formative place it is.”
